Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee is Founder, President and Trustee of
Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya (SSN), Guwahati. This organization
was declared as a "Centre of Excellence" in 2004 by
then Prime Minister of India Dr.Manmohan Singh. He is also Founder
Director of "Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Institute of Ophthalmology"
and "Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Institute of Community Ophthalmology".
Dr. Bhattacharjee was involved with ICMR to do research on Congenital
Ocular Abnormalities and effect of paternal age on Congenital
Ocular Disorder. He was team member of WHO collaborative study
on blindness in Assam and team member of WHO activity on Small
Pox Eradication Programme.
Dr. Bhattacharjee has organized several National & International
conferences and he has more than 200 national publications and
more than 20 international publications to his credit. He has
made more than 300 presentations in several Local, National and
International forums. He was Associate Professor of Regional Institute
of Ophthalmology, Guwahati Medical College Hospital and President
of Association of Community Ophthalmologist India. He is life
member of All India Ophthalmic Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology,
etc.
Dr. Bhattacharjee has been Chairman, Panellist& Guest Lecturer
in many scientific sessions (national & international) and
is an invited participant in National and International conferences.
He has also Co-Authored 4 Textbook of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Bhattacharjee is an examiner at Calcutta University, Gauhati
University, Royal College of Surgeons (FRCP, Edin.) and National
Board of Examinations, New Delhi. He also serves as an Inspector
and research guide for National Board of Examinations, New Delhi
and post graduate teacher and research guide (Ph. D) guide at
Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS).
The clinical experience of Dr. Bhattacharjee is rich with more
than 55 thousand Cataract and Anterior Segment eye surgeries,
21thousand Vitreo Retinal surgeries and 9 thousand Adnexal surgeries.
Sixty percentage of his clinical work is done as charity and community
service.
Dr. Bhattacharjee has been involved in various pioneering activities
like introduction & development of Intra Ocular Lens implantation
following cataract surgery in North East India, Introduction of
Phacoemulsification, surgical technique and establishment of Vitreo-Retinal
set up in India & introduction of modern Vitreo Retinal treatment
& surgical facilities in North East India.
Dr. Bhattacharjee has several awards to his credit like Karmayogi
award; 2000-2001 conferred by the International Association of
Lions Club, Excellence in Medicine award; 2008 conferred by Down
Town Hospital, Achievement award; 2007-2008 by South Asian Academy
of Ophthalmology, S Debnath Memorial Baticrom Social award; 2010
conferred by Baticrom Group of Publication, Professional excellence
and contribution in the field of Ophthalmology conferred by International
Hospital, DPRC award for outstanding medical service in the society
2013, Social Contribution award conferred by GLP social circle
Guwahati and a special felicitation by All Assam Students Union
(AASU) and many more renowned organization.
